Neighbourhood Spotlight: Oliver
This week, we thought we'd feature one of the most sought-out neighbourhoods in Edmonton: Oliver. Oliver is popular for many reasons, and we've highlighted 7 amazing aspects of this quaint neighbourhood:
1) It has a cat cafe
What’s better than cats and coffee? Having both of them at the same time, of course!
Bring your kiddos (7+) to this lovely café on 109th Street, just west of MacEwan University. Grab yourself a cappuccino and cookie, and head back into the cat lounge – equipped with a giant cat castle!
While each cat is up for adoption, there’s no pressure to adopt. Sit, sip & relax while petting a furry friend at this one of a kind café. Learn more
2) There's food all around
Oliver is known for delicious eats all around, but we felt the need to feature the long-running Italian eatery, Il Pasticcio Trattoria!
This stunning restaurant is a hidden gem in the Oliver community – located on 100th Ave, right before Victoria Park Road.
A fan favourite of Oliver residents, this family-friendly restaurant serves every Italian dish you can think of – plus, if you ask the server for a Sharpie, you can even leave your mark on the walls (or ceiling!).
Il Pasticcio Trattoria is a 'must visit' when craving Italian food. We highly recommend trying the bruschetta (you won't regret it!).
3) BOUTIQUE shopping IN EDMONTON
Right on the west edge of Oliver, you’ll find a local, collective boutique called The Makers Keep.
The Makers Keep showcases beautiful jewelry, unique clothing and stunning home décor – all from Edmonton & area vendors. This boutique is the perfect stop for gifts, baby clothes or something special for yourself.
What’s more? There’s a kids corner & coffee bar right on-site, making it a great place to check out while on family outings.
4) voted one of the best #yeg neighbourhoods to live in
Oliver is Edmonton’s #3 BEST neighbourhood to live in – out of 375 neighbourhoods. (Avenue, 2017). It has a beautiful, walkable neighbourhood, is close to Downtown and yet it still has that home-y, residential vibe. While Oliver has a large population of elderly people, majority of the demographic is between the ages of 20 - 35.
Fun fact: Edmonton General Hospital was Canada’s first hospital to have a fully operable X-ray machine!
5) You'll never be bored
It’s time for some fun! We all know that we’ve got a lot of escape rooms in Edmonton, but SmartyPantz takes the cake.
Located right by the Ice District, SmartyPantz is a one-of-a-kind escape room experience, perfect for any occasion. They have movie set quality rooms and the hosts are real actors in costume!
If you’re not up for the in-person escape room encounter, you can also bring the experience to your conference, convention or any other large-scale party in the form of a board game.
6) COFFEE LOVERS REJOICE
If you love coffee as much as we do, we highly recommend checking out Iconoclast Coffee. But why choose Iconoclast over your trusted Starbucks? Three reasons: it’s hand made in Edmonton, it's roasted in small batches and it’s served only in compostable packaging.
On top of that, this stunning, minimalist café features open garage doors (on sunny days, of course!), ping pong tables, board games, and has a great selection of coffee related goods for sale.
This is the perfect summer café that you just have to visit.
7) UNIQUE BARS FOR DATE NIGHT
Bar Clementine is a new, elegant bar in the heart of the Oliver neighbourhood, inspired by nature and the early 20th Century French art.
This 36-seater restaurant made it to the Top 10 new restaurants in Canada, and features stunning French cuisine, classic cocktails and wine from family-run vineyards.
There is no dress code, but we suggest you dress a bit formal to match the stunning atmosphere.
8) IMPRESSIVE ARCHITECTURE
Oliver is home to Edmonton's tallest residential building (and one of our property management clients), The Pearl, which boasts 36 storeys of breathtaking panoramic city views. With unique shops located on the street level, this is one building that goes unnoticed!
