It's time to move from one house to another, and we know how stressful this can be. Luckily, we've compiled a list of our favourite #MovingHacks to make your move as smooth as possible:
1) Label, label, label
Tangled cords can cause frustration, especially during big moves. To save time, label all of your cords as you pack up electronics! Bonus tip: take a picture of the back of your television and desktop computer so you remember how you had everything set up.
2) Use boxes to DOWNSIZE
The easiest way to make a move smoother is to start downsizing - the sooner, the better! We love this idea of dividing a room into 4 sections: what you keep, what you donate, what you recycle, and what goes in the trash!
3) Rubber bands are our friends
Keep the cold out without having to struggle with opening/closing the door each time you carry boxes to and from your vehicle. Try wrapping an elastic around your door latch, it still allows you to close the door, but it saves you the pain from locking and unlocking it each time you leave!
4) Colour code
Make unpacking a breeze with a colour code system! Pick up a pack of coloured construction paper at your local dollar store and cut them into squares. Determine which colour each room will be, and tape a piece of construction paper to the corresponding box. Not only will you know exactly where to put each box, your boxes will be good as new & ready for re-use.
5) Pack a first-night box
No one wants to go rooting through boxes on their first night in a new home, especially after a long day of moving. Avoid the hassle & pack yourself a box full of the essentials - a change of clothes, toiletries, and anything else you'll need before you get settled.
6) Change your info
We know you have a thousand other things on your mind, but remember to get the word out about your change of address! Make sure you update your address with your bank, utilities, PayPal, Amazon, and credit cards.. and of course send a message to your loved ones.
7) Take the stress off your shoulders
If you're feeling overwhelmed, remember that it's always an option to hire professional moving companies. The right company can help you move quickly and pain free. "I have used GLC Moving a few times and they have been great. I’ve had clients use them too with great feedback. They’ll even orchestrate cross-country moves as well." says Nikita Gylander of Core Real Estate Group.
